Did he make Eli up completely or is he an old, perhaps dead, friend?!
UPDATE: Or maybe he’s just Newt’s alter-ego. Another half of Newt hidden, repressed over the years of abuse from his mother and in care homes. Maybe Eli is just Newt’s way of dealing with some of his personality traits.
Seems feasible, no?

I’m a bit disappointed after reading this, seeing as its fairly obvious you are right and Eli isn’t real, it would have been nice to have been “shocked” now I’m watching it look for “clues” to confirm it.
I noticed this at the start as when newt and eli looked into the mirror only newts reflection was in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would just like to say, although it seems he is imaginary it cant be disasocitative identity disorder because he doesnt really show any sympotoms except him apparently being his friend newt doesnt seem to be suffering in any other way related to this disorder, so either its a cock up on there behalf for not researching enough, or im looking too much into and he is just an ‘imaginary friend’
